Read on to find out more about this opportunity: Starting in approximately 2013, the California Office of Traffic Safety (Cal OTS) has awarded Marin County a grant that currently funds two fixed-term positions at the Deputy District Attorney II level. This DUI grant funding has been renewed for the 2025–2026 fiscal grant year. There are currently two full-time, fixed term, benefited positions available under this grant, which is scheduled to end on September 30, 2026, the close of the fiscal grant year. The grant period runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. Open & Continuous Recruitment: This recruitment is Open and Continuous. Applicants are encouraged to submit completed applications as soon as possible. The filing period for an Open and Continuous recruitment may be closed at any time. The fixed-term positions will prosecute DUI cases with a focus on repeat DUI offenders, DUI drug cases, DUI injury cases, and other complex DUI matters. Attorneys assigned to the DUI grant caseload will handle cases vertically, from start to finish, prosecuting both alcohol- and drug-impaired driving cases at the felony and misdemeanor levels. Prosecution team members will work with the state’s Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Program (TSRP) and local law enforcement agencies to implement best practices and expand knowledge and resources in this field. Duties include conducting pretrial interviews with victims, witnesses, experts, and arresting officers; negotiating cases with the defense and the court; preparing for and conducting preliminary hearings, PC §1538.5 motion-to-suppress briefings and hearings, other motions and hearings, jury trials, and sentencings; advising law enforcement agencies on legal and evidentiary matters; issuing criminal complaints; preparing search and arrest warrants; and engaging in community outreach. Our Highly Qualified Candidate: The ideal candidate must have prior prosecutorial experience conducting Driving Under the Influence (DUI) jury trials through verdict. The ideal candidate will have both felony and misdemeanor experience, a demonstrated willingness to perform all aspects of District Attorney legal services, and the knowledge and skills to work independently as well as collaboratively on all assignments. This individual will have a proven track record of delivering excellent legal services, be an effective team collaborator, and demonstrate respect for all participants in the criminal justice system. They will also seek to develop positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, staff, opposing counsel, judicial officers, and court personnel. In addition, the highly qualified candidate will have extensive experience prosecuting criminal cases and will have taken multiple jury trials to verdict.
